Articles 5 and 6 of the Directives Governing the Management of NTU Guesthouses for Chair Professors and Visiting Faculty state that: “Once the rental application for a guesthouse has been approved, the applicant shall begin to pay all relevant fees starting from the check-in date.” Additionally, “A lessee of a guesthouse, after having moved in, may decide to return the guesthouse before the expiration date of the rental term. However, the lessee must inform the Office of General Affairs in writing at least one week in advance. The lessee shall bear all relevant fees for the rental term applied for if he or she fails to submit the written notification one week in advance.”
Eligibility for Renting Visiting Scholars’ Guesthouses:
Any person who meets any of the following criteria may apply:
- Personnel recruited under the University’s Directives for Appointing Distinguished Chair Professors; Yushan Scholars approved by the Ministry of Education; or experts/scholars who are winners of the Nobel Prize, a National Fellowship, or an award of equivalent caliber..
- Personnel recruited under the University’s Directives for Appointing Distinguished Chair Professors.
- Personnel recruited under a program of the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC), formerly Ministry of Science and Technology (MOST), Executive Yuan, including the Grant for Recruiting Research Fellows, Research Project Program, or Visiting Science and Technology Personnel with NSTC Funding; or lecturers/researchers recruited with the approval of the Administrative Meeting. However, postdoctoral researchers and research assistants are excluded.
- Chair professors or visiting lecturers/researchers recruited by a functionally integrated research center that is subsidized or funded by the University under the Higher Education SPROUT Project .
- Exchange or visiting scholars from a partner institution or an agency (organization) with which the University has an academic exchange agreement.
- Chair professors or visiting personnel employed by another agency (organization) who are not remunerated, who are not included in the personnel quota, and who lecture or conduct research at the University.

Short-term (up to three months) visiting scholars may also apply, but the above seven categories of applicants are given a higher priority.

Any person with special approval from the University President.

Fee Schedule for Visiting Scholars’ Dormitory:
Fees for accommodation charges and utilities (water, electricity and gas for heating and cooking) are assessed according to Article 8 of the Directives Governing the Management of NTU Guesthouses for Chair Professors and Visiting Faculty, promulgated on March 21, 2022.
1. Accommodation charges: NT$1,300 per ping per month (1 “ping” is Taiwanese unit of area and floorspace equivalent to about 3.306 square meters), with the total monthly amount rounded up to the nearest thousand NT dollars. The accommodation charges for the following types of guesthouse units are calculated based on the above formula:
a. Two-bedroom unit: Between NT$27,000 and NT$36,000 per month per unit;
b. Three-bedroom unit: Between NT$37,000 and NT$47,000 per month per unit.
2. Water and electricity expenses: Assessed based on actual usage and according to the standard rates announced by the University.
a. Water: NT$21.2 per cubic meter for usage up to 1,000 cubic meters; NT$28.5 per cubic meter for usage exceeding 1,000 cubic meters.
b. Electricity: NT$3 per kWh.
3. Gas (for heating and cooking): Assessed based on actual usage and according to the rates published by the utility company. (NT$10.38 per cubic meter plus basic charges.)
4. Cable TV subscription, Internet access: Provided free-of-charge by the University.
5. Guesthouse repair and maintenance fees, equipment maintenance fees, electricity expenses for common areas, community management fees: Paid by the University.
Amenities for Visiting Scholars’Dormitory for Chair Professors and Visiting Faculty:
1. Household appliances:
Refrigerator, washing machine, TV, window/split air conditioner, gas stove, range hood, water heater, microwave oven, instant cooker, and others.
2. Furniture and equipment:
Sofa set, coffee table, TV cabinet, double bed (with mattress), single bed (with mattress), desk, chairs, wardrobe, dining table and chairs, cabinets, curtains, and others.
3. Telecommunications equipment:
Internet access, cable TV channels.
4. Bedding:
Pillows, quilts, all season quilts, pillowcases, bedspreads.
5. Cleaning tools:
Broom, mop, toilet brush, trash can.
